Santa Margherita Ligure

The Italian Riviera is legendary for beauty and luxury, and a visit to Santa Margherita gave us a chance to experience this remarkable area. We splurged here on a downtown hotel recommended by friends, and it added a lot to our stay.

The Ligurian Sea provides a rich backdrop to our first view of Santa Margherita.

The harbor is the heart of the town, and it's beautifully maintained.

Our hotel was the Metropole, directly across the harbor from the main harbor.

Lynn loves balconies, and this was one of her most successful finds. Slack key sounded great overlooking the Riviera.

The harbor and town peaked through the lush trees and garden off our balcony.

We passed this charming promontory on our walks into the main downtown.

We took the train from this picturesque station when we visited the Cinque Terre.
